SEO Tools For Linux

Nearly every piece of software written that aids in search engine optimization is written for the Windows platform.  Perhaps this is because most of these types of software come with a price tag, and I would venture to say that most Linux users are resistant to paying for any type of software.  The Open Source community provides just about every kind of app a person needs, but some specialized kinds of apps are sometimes unavailable.

Applications for helping with SEO that run natively on Linux are one such area that seems to have been forgotten by many.  But while you probably won’t find any kind of help in your distros repository, there are a few tools available for the Linux-powered SEO guru.

The SEO PowerSuite from Link-Assistant.com is a nice suite of SEO apps that do run natively on Linux.  SEO PowerSuite consists of four apps that aid in analyzing websites and backlinks.  These apps are SEO Spyglass, Rank Tracker, Website Auditor and LinkAssistant.

The SEO PowerSuite comes in three different versions; Free, Pro and Enterprise.  The free version provides nearly all of the functions available in the Pro or Enterprise versions with the major difference being the inability to save reports.  While this is a nuisance to me, I have not felt the need yet to upgrade to a paid version of this software.

I have used SEO Spyglass quite a bit in the past for analyzing the backlinks of client sites, as well as the backlinks of their competitors.  Knowing information such as which sites are linking to your competitors, the PR of those sites and the anchor text used in those links can often be invaluable in planning your own SEO process.

Another thing to note is that SEO Spyglass for Linux isn’t a stripped down version of its Windows counterpart; I have used this app on both Windows and Linux and the features as well as the look are identical on both platforms.  This is a refreshing thing to see, as many cross-platform apps that have a Linux version are often just feature stripped (Skype anyone?)

I haven’t yet had much of a chance to play around with the three other apps (Rank Tracker, Website Auditor and LinkAssistant), but if the usefullness of SEO Spyglass is any indication, then I’m looking forward to the assistance that these other apps can provide.

Click some of these circles and spread the news!
